Stratasys manufactures industrial 3D printers that are used by manufacturers for the creation of prototypes, models, and small batches of parts. Stratasys offers larger production 3D printers as well as desktop 3D printers. Stratasys 3D printers use Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and PolyJet processes. The company offers over 100 PolyJet photopolymer materials and 10 FDM thermoplastic materials for their printers.
HistoryStratasys Inc. was founded by Scott and Lisa Crump in 1989. Scott Crump patented Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), which is a 3D printing technology which deposits melted material on a print bed layer by layer. Stratasys also uses a PolyJet process, which exposes photopolymers to ultraviolet (UV) light that hardens the part. In 2012, Stratasys Inc. Merged with Objet Ltd. and became Stratasys Ltd. In 2013, Stratasys acquired MakerBot, another 3D printer manufacturer.
